Narrative written by PSAA:
This creative placemaking project connects the iconic art-filled Nova Building with other buildings at the Electric Blocks campus. The Nova Building holds special significance in Portland’s street art history - carefully re-built to incorporate the graffiti-covered remnants of the old Taylor Electric Supply Company warehouse that was destroyed by a massive 4-alarm fire in 2006. For over a decade, the old ruins that once sat at this site became a Portland nexus of local, regional, and national graffiti art.

The community was invited to join the action! Sabin CDC (@sabincdc_pdx), a non-profit dedicated to promoting social equity by enhancing the livability of culturally diverse Portland neighborhoods, and property owner Killian Pacific (who commissioned the work) both hosted Community Paint Days - giving folks a chance to help get the colors down on the ground.

Broadleaf Arbor Street Painting

Broadleaf Arbor was conceived as an affordable housing project and is a collaboration between Community Development Partners (CDP) and Northwest Oregon Housing Authority. The St. Helens, Oregon neighborhood was designed as a “Community for All Ages” and features 239 apartments and townhouses, accommodating seniors, and multi-generational families.

The CPID worked with residents to design a street painting to be installed as a part of a grand opening. Abuela’s Kitchen provided technical support and helped facilitate a community install day.

Finishing touches and parking space murals added in collaboration with Barich Works.
